    Navy Seaman Apprentice Ryan Paysen, son of Roger and Kathie Paysen of Warsaw, recently participated in the decommissioning of the submarine rescue ship USS Ortolan.

During a ceremony held in Charleston, S.C., Paysen and his shipmates saw USS Ortolan's 21 years of naval service come to an end.

July 2 1980

    The Seward Township-Burket Fire Dept. mens' and women's bucket brigade teams won the state championship in that event recently at the State Firemen's Convention, held in Fort Wayne.

Members of the state championship mens' bucket brigade team are Dennis Overmyer, David Kuhn, Matt Shafer, Bill Leininger, Kevin McSherry and John Huff, and members of the women's team, which set a new state record, are Marsha McSherry, Rainelle Overmyer, Tona Huff, Buni Leininger, Nancy Shafer and Suzannah Kuhn.

    Ed Alexander, Electrolux man of 1116 E. Center St., received a 12-inch window fan, a large stand fan and weekend trip with expenses paid by Electrolux Corp. to French Lick and $30 cash money in prizes for the month. Winning all prizes put up by the company.

July 2 1930

    Cutting of wheat is under way throughout Kosciusko County. A large number of men were at work in fields in all directions from Warsaw Tuesday. A number of Kosciusko County farmers, however, began their harvesting Monday afternoon, despite the rain earlier in the day.
