    Bob Kesler is one of many Lakeland area artists who will be displaying his creations during the grand opening of the Lakeland Art Center this Friday and Saturday, located west of the courthouse at 109 Lake St.

Kesler became interested in watercolor painting three years ago after his eight-year-old granddaughter, Kara, persuaded him to buy her a watercolor set.

July 17 1978

    A happy candidate, Phillip J. Roy, 30, of Warsaw, was appointed the new city councilman-at-large at the Kosciusko County Republican convention Tuesday night in the Shrine Building on the county fairgrounds. Roy will fill the post which was vacated with the recent resignation of Graham Kreicker. Other nominees for the position were Earl Ketrow and William Batalis.

July 17 1953

    Archie Holle, of Warsaw, inspected his stock car racer today after the car was badly damaged in a spectacular collision during the feature 50-lap mid-season championship race last Saturday night at the Warsaw Speedway. Holle escaped with body bruises and a gash over his eye that required three stitches. Art Johnson, of Warsaw, who won the race, turned over his entire purse to Holle.

July 17 1928

    Robert Ittenbach, Indianapolis, with the aid of his brother Ralph, hooked a 19-1/2 pound pickerel measuring 42 inches from the waters of Lake Wawasee Thursday.

It took Ittenbach almost one hour to get the fish, said to be the largest ever caught in Wawasee, into the little fishing boat.
