Delmar Evans, two years ago candidate for sheriff on the Democratic ticket, had a narrow escape from drowning while fishing on Pike Lake when he was pulled from his boat by a large fish which struck his fishing tackle. Evans says he was fishing on the north side of the lake when a large fish, species unknown, struck his tackle and for a time put up a determined fight. He was unable to land it. Finally, the fish started across the lake and when it had taken all the slack in the line the jerk was of such force that Evans was pulled from the boat. It was with difficulty that he was able to climb back into the boat. The fish got away with line, rod and reel.
