July 15 1996

    K.P. Bernicky sold his Grand Champion steer at Friday's 4-H livestock auction for $2.50 per pound, or a total of $3,087.50. The group that bought the steer included: Thames Goon, representing Bison Trailers and Quality Assured Auto Sales; Terry Ayres, of the Main View Restaurant, North Manchester; and Joe Kessie, representing First National Bank of Warsaw and Service Liquors.

July 15 1981

    Airman Ronald D. King, son of Ruth A. Werstler, North Manchester, has been decorated with the U.S. Air Force Commendation Medal at Rhein Main Air Base, West Germany.

The Air Force Commendation Medal is awarded to those individuals who demonstrate outstanding achievement or meritorious service in the performance of their duties on behalf of the Air Force.

July 15 1956

    Richard Surface found a large penny, dated 1842, recently during grading work at his home southwest of Claypool. His brother, David, picked up an 1863 token issued by Murray and Bros. store in Pierceton. Parents of the boys are Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Surface whose farm on the north side of Hill Lake was the Homan homestead, held by the same family for several generations.

July 15 1931

    Believe it or not, two bass, one weighing 4 pounds and one weighing 3 pounds were caught in Center Lake by Ernest Osborn at the same time, on one single cast of an artificial wooden plug bait.

Arriving home at 702 N. Detroit St. with the seven pounds of choice fish early this morning Osborn's wife, not to be outdone took the crippled minnow bait and an hour later arrived home with a three-pound bass.
