    Barbara Bartels, North Webster, an instructor at Indiana Vocational Technical College's Warsaw center, has received the college's Excellence Award for Faculty.

The award is presented annually in recognition of an outstanding contribution to teaching, innovative and creative teaching methods, and inspirational or motivational qualities.

July 15 1978

    The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1126 color guard from Warsaw won the state championship title in recent field competition. Members of the color guard are Milo Lindzy, Chet Zorn, Bernie Flannery, Bob Caree, John Dove, Larry Jackson, Sgt. Frank Copeland, Jerry Kesler, Nick Laurino and Tex Plummer.

    Mary Ann Dunbar and Max Truex, Warsaw, High School pupils who a few days ago crossed the Atlantic on the S.S. Skaubryn with 263 other young Americans selected by the American Field Service to spend the summer with European families, have written letters to The Times-Union, telling of their adventures.

Mary Ann is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Dunbar, Winona Lake, and Max is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Truex, North Bay Drive.

July 15 1928

    A medal was awarded Carl Warner, of Warsaw, by the Ralston Purina Hero Commission for the gallant rescue of Helen Dederick, from Center Lake a year ago.

The medal was presented to young Warner in the city hall by Mayor John G. Hansman in an appropriate address in the presence of Pete Thorn, director of the Boys' Club, and friends.
