    David Flora won the local round of the seventh annual Marsh Super Sacker contest at the Marsh Supermarket in Warsaw.

The Super Sacker contest involves sacking 26 specific common grocery items. Contestants were judged on speed, effective use of the bags, weight distribution between sacks, courtesy and personal style during sacking.

    Wawasee High School senior Michele Miller today wears the crown of 1979 Queen of the Lakes following her coronation at the conclusion of the 34th Mermaid Festival at North Webster Saturday night. The 17-year-old beauty is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Johnson, Syracuse.

    Donald H. Lessig, local consulting engineer, left late Wednesday for Baltimore, Md., where he will attend a conference with engineers of the Greiner Engineering firm, official engineers for the northern Indiana toll highway.

While in the east Lessig also will attend a conference with officials of the Society of Professional Engineers at Washington, D.C. Lessig will represent the Indiana Society of Professional Engineers during this eastward trip.

July 1 1929

    TIPPECANOE - Gene, 2-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. "Duge" Worsham, of Tippecanoe, took a wild automobile ride. The child prepared to accompany his father to Bourbon, the latter started out, thinking the baby was in the back seat. As he drove away, Mrs. Worsham saw the baby on the running-board of the machine. She jumped into a truck and started in pursuit, trying to call the attention of her husband to the fact that the baby was in danger. He did not realize the danger and sped over the rough road at 50 miles an hour. When he had gone about two and a half miles he heard the baby cry and stopped. The baby boy had retained his seat and was unhurt. He had started to cry, not from fright, but because a small stone, flying up from the gravel road, struck him on the foot and pained him.
