    Josh Gross of Bourbon has earned the Eagle Scout Award, the highest award in Boy Scouting.

The Triton High School senior began to make plans for his project a year ago, when he decided to "flowerscape" the school grounds. His project resulted in a colorful display on the south and west sides of the building as the "T" near the football field.

25 Years Ago

January 5 1982

    Jerrett Smith, 4, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dave Smith, Pierceton, won a huge Christmas stocking filled with toys, games and candy as the winner of the Penguin Point Christmas promotion.


50 Years Ago

January 5 1957

    Nael A. Lindeman, of Rochester, received his commission as ensign from Capt. H.S. Jackson, commanding officer of the pre-flight school at the naval air station, Pensacola, Fla.

Nael is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank A. Lindeman, Rochester. He had 16 weeks at the pre-flight school as an aviation officer candidate, is now in primary flight training at Saufley Field naval air station at Pensacola.

75 Years Ago

January 5 1932

    An eight-mile run was made this morning into the country by the Mentone Fire Dept. when a woman telephoned into the department that her neighbor's home was on fire and the family was away from home. When the department arrived there was no fire discovered. Investigation resulted in its being discovered that a reflection of the sun on the windows of the house made it appear like a fire was raging inside.
