January 31 1996

    More than $400 for an incentive ski trip was raised at Tippecanoe Valley Middle School in a "Kiss A Pig" contest. Students voted for their favorite teacher by placing a penny in the appropriate can. Sixth-grade students won the contest and chose Bill Leininger, Nikki Early and Linda Studebaker to kiss the pig, which was furnished by Rudy Glingle.

January 31 1981

    William E. Yantiss, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Tombaugh, Mentone, has been promoted to the U.S. Air Force to the rank of major.

Yantiss is an instructor pilot at Langley Air Force Base, Va.

50 Years Ago

January 31 1956

    Pfc. Robert L. Graham, son of Charles N. Graham, North Manchester, recently participated in "Polo Ball," a Seventh Army command post exercise in Germany. The exercise tested communications, clothing, equipment and supply operations in snow, rain, mud, cold and wind.

Bob is a wireman with the 5th infantry division artillery.

January 31 1931

    Early signs of spring were discovered today by Floyd Treesh, custodian of the Kosciusko County courthouse. Treesh found two pigeon eggs in a nest in the courthouse dome.
