    Winners in the safety poster coloring contest conducted by the American Red Cross with students from the Presbyterian PAC program are Travis Reneker, 9, first place; Adrienne Smalley, 9, second place; and Ryan Hamilton, 7, third place.

January 27 1978

    A "killer" snowstorm began subsiding Thursday night after paralyzing Kosciusko County and the entire state with a record accumulation of snow and gusty winds.

The white nightmare of a storm resulted in a statewide snow emergency declared by Gov. Otis Bowen, and a county emergency declared by County Commissioners Fredrick Gilliam, Gerald Smalley and Maurice Dorsey and Civil Defense Director Sonja Creighton on Thursday morning, which remains in effect today.

    Members of the North Webster American Legion Auxiliary unit have selected Lenora Warble, member of the junior class at the North Webster High School, as the Girls' State representative they will sponsor this year. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Warble, North Webster.

Carol Thomas, also a member of the North Webster High School junior class, was selected as alternate. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Maxwell, North Webster, are her parents.

    The bridge club met Tuesday evening with Mrs. Donald Lessig. At the close of the playing, Mrs. Everett Rasor had high score, and Mrs. Everett Anglin second high. Mrs. George Boone, Mrs. Arden Poor and Helen Gilliam were guests.
