    Mark this date: For the first time ever, the same school is on top of the boys and girls AP poll.

Warsaw, one of just three schools in the state to have won a state championship in both boys and girls basketball, made history when the boys' team overtook Bedford-North Lawrence for the top spot. The Lady Tigers held on to their first-place ranking from last week.

January 24 1975

    Nearly 600 spectators huddled in groups to beat the cold weather in viewing the 2-1/2 hour National Snowmobile race, held for the first time at Lake Wawasee Sunday. Participants from Ohio, Michigan and Indiana competed for 60 laps or 150 miles without mishap. The event was sponsored by the Lakeland Snowmobile Association, which boasted the top winners. The top place award went to Leonard Baugher, president of the Lakeland Snowmobile Club, North Webster, and his co-pilot, Jim Scott. Second place winner was Phil Fidler and his co-pilot Mike McKee, both of North Webster.

January 24 1950

    Mrs. Victor McKinley, of Winona Lake, was hostess Wednesday evening to the Stitch and Chatter Club. The members worked on sewing and knitting projects. Mrs. George Endicott assisted Mrs. McKinley in entertaining the guests.

January 24 1925

    An improvement made on the automobile jack, telescope-like invention of E.W. Conrad and William Bodkin, has been perfected in the past few days and the new model will be shown at the Chicago auto show. The improvement enables the jack to be placed under cars or objects which have a clearance of only five inches. Other jacks often are 10 to 12 inches high, too high for use under many cars.
