    Seven boxing matches were conducted at the Baker Boys' Club Saturday evening, with Warsaw individuals winning two of the four matches which had winners.

Rick Rivera scored a victory over his Michiana opponent in the 119-pound weight class. Will Sparkman scored a TKO in the 139-pound division.

    Mr. and Mrs. Robert Norris, Rt. 1, Mentone, will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary with an open house on Jan 27, at Teel's Restaurant, Mentone.

Robert Norris and the former Dora Boyer were married Feb. 16, 1924 in the Mentone Baptist parsonage by the Rev. Stanley Dodson.

    The fact that Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Goshert, 504 N. Lake St., Warsaw, will celebrate their seventieth wedding anniversary on Jan. 22, has by no means passed unnoticed. For instance, from the White House came this note to them dated Jan. 7: "I have been told about the exceptional privilege which is yours in having attained your birthdays in the nineties and now celebration of your seventieth wedding anniversary on January 22. It gives me the greatest pleasure to join with your group of friends in felicitating you on this memorable occasion. I am sure that you find much comfort and cheer in the reminiscences of your many years of companionship. Very sincerely yours, Harry S. Truman."

January 23 1924

    An automobile driven by Glen Melicka, cruising and touring about on the 7-inch ice on Center Lake on Sunday afternoon, broke through the ice and went to the bottom with Melicka and his pet bulldog, "Bob," sitting in the front seat.

Most fortunately the car broke through not far from shore. The rear end hung on the edge of the ice and probably prevented it from settling in about 6 feet of water.
