    Laura Overton, Warsaw, was recently named the winner of a poster contest sponsored by Hoosier Water Co., Warsaw.

Overton, a fourth-grader at Eisenhower Elementary School, designed a poster with a "Jeopardy" show theme to heighten water conservation awareness. She was awarded a Chamber of Commerce gift certificate from the water company.

January 22 1977

    Melissa Lichtenwalter won the recent Kosciusko County oratorical contest in a meet at the John C. Peterson American Legion Post in Warsaw. She will receive a college scholarship of $632 from the county American Legion Posts, who sponsor the annual event. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lichtenwalter, and a junior at Warsaw Community High School. Dan Martin, a senior at Wawasee High School, was runner-up.

    Mrs. Kathryn Coy, county assessor, and Paul Oberli, Wayne Township assessor, will attend the two-day state conference of tax assessors which opens Thursday at the state house, Indianapolis.

Instruction will be given on regulation changes and procedures in preparation for the assessing period which begins March 1.

    The special prize for hens laying more than 25 eggs a month has been awarded to Prosecuting Attorney William Gray Loehr, Warsaw, well-known northern Indiana chicken fancier, by the Sixteenth National Egg Laying Contest held at the Missouri State Experiment station at Mountain Grove, Mo. Loehr's White Wyandotte laid 26 eggs during December 1926, and is one of the 10 high individual layers to date. Only five passed Loehr's hen, and two were tied with her.
