Doris Ann Slaymaker and Chad Burkhart were honored with the prestigious awards during the 79th annual Greater Warsaw Chamber of Commerce banquet at 2517 restaurant. Slaymaker is former director of Volunteer Community Services and Burkhart is pastor of the First Free Will Baptist Church near Claypool.

Devastation from a midtown Warsaw fire is estimated at between $750,000 and $1 million - the single most disastrous city blaze in recent history.
Three businesses, Helfrich's Women's Apparel, D&D Meats and Unique Bake Shop, all in the 100 block of South Buffalo Street, were destroyed and five others on East Center Street were threatened with annihilation early this morning for three hours before 80 firemen from four departments brought the blaze under control.

Here's a "believe it or not" story. Billy Jo Warner, the young son of Mr. and Mrs. Gale Warner, Warsaw, found a 3-inch mushroom on a lawn at the corner of Center and Washington streets. The sponge mushroom was slightly over an inch in diameter.
75 Years Ago January 19 1926
Mr. and Mrs. J.P. Miller, of West Fort Wayne Street, on Jan. 18 will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary. Both are in excellent health. Mr. Miller is 87 years of age and Mrs. Miller is 78.
