Mentone Fireman of the Year honor was recently awarded to Steve Mellott. Mellott has been a Mentone firefighter 11 years. Fire chief Joe Good presented the award.
Five young Kosciusko County men graduated and one was named the honor student of his class in recent graduation exercises at United Electronics Institute of Louisville, Ky. Ricky A. Smelser was named class honor students. Also graduating were Mike Martin, Joseph H. Cutler II, Joe Holle and Marion E. Boggs.
Scoring two baskets in a thrilling overtime period, the Milford Trojans added the 1947 county basketball championship to their sectional cage title and softball championship of 1946. It was the Speicher brothers, Bill and Lew, who came through with the game-winning buckets.
George Funk, son of Chester and Mrs. Funk, of Leesburg, who has served in the United States Navy for the past two years, has been promoted to first pharmacist mate.
