    Pvt. Scot D. Gidley, son of Robert D. and Genny A. Gidley of 107 W. Fourth St., North Manchester, has received the parachutist badge upon completion of the three-week airborne course at the U.S. Army Infantry School, Fort Benning, Ga.

Jan. 13 1973

    E.N. Ausherman, insurance consultant, became head of the insurance department at Tucker Realty and Insurance, Warsaw, it was announced today by H. Dale Tucker. Ausherman has served in the insurance field since 1963 offering all types of insurance. He is a graduate of LIMI Purdue University and Casualty School, Indianapolis.

    An old Model T Ford motor replaced an electric motor to keep Silver Lake's water supply to normal levels during recent power shortage caused by the sleet storm. The motor, once owned by John Kerlin, has been used at the water station twice within the year to avert a town-wide water shortage.

Jan. 13 1923

    Claypool took its name from the old postoffice which was established in 1840 at the home of Joshua Calddwell. The office was abolished in 1865 but re-established in 1873 and gave the name to the station on what was then the Cincinnati, Wabash and Michigan Railway. The first merchant of Claypool was Abraham J. Whittenberger, who conducted a general store and postoffice near where J.W. Showalter's residence now stands.
