    Mindy Shepherd, 11, has been selected to represent the state if Indiana in the pre-teen category of the National USA Young Miss competition in Atlanta, Ga., March 31 through April 1.

She is a fifth grader at Lincoln School and the daughter of Donald and Lella Shepherd, Rt. 2, Warsaw.

Jan. 12 1973

    The Warsaw Community High School Stage Bank received a first division rating in the Group III competition of the Northern Indiana School Stage Band contest at Fort Wayne Saturday.

The music performed was "Alfie" and "That Old Devil Moon."

Jan. 12 1948

    At the meeting held Monday evening by boy scout troop No. 40 at Silver Lake, the scout craft period was devoted to signaling (Morse Code) practice. A signaling contest was held in which the team of Walter Mohle, sender, and Bob Chapple, coach, won.

Jan. 12 1923

    Peppermint growers and others interested in the culture of peppermint to the number of 45, met Wednesday evening at the Jefferson Township school and discussed prospects for the coming season. Twenty growers in the audience reported a total of 417 acres in peppermint last fall.
