    Perry Waggoner was recently chosen as the outstanding Drug Abuse Resistance Education student of the year. Waggoner is a student at Atwood Elementary School.

    NORTH WEBSTER - On Feb. 13, Alan Thompson, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Thompson, and Steve Badskey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Badskey, received scouting's highest award, The Eagle.

Thompson is a freshman at Wawasee High School, and Badskey is a senior at Wawasee.

    Mona Belle Ross, 8-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Ross, Route 5, Mentone, was a thrilled little girl when Howard Kring, Russell Smith and Charles Welker, of Warsaw, walked into the third grade at Mentone School and presented her with a check for $5.

She won the award for her letter, judged best among the 600 written by boys and girls who recently attended the Shrine Circus in Fort Wayne as guests of the Kosciusko County Shrine Club. Mona Belle had described the skaters as the feature she liked best at the circus.

    Mrs. Martin Workman, who resides south of Pierceton, writes the Daily Times that on Feb. 17 she gathered a gallon of nice dandelion greens in her garden. She adds that she was glad to sit by the fire the next morning to clean the greens as the mercury had gone down to 12 degrees above zero.
