    Retired Kosciusko County banker Homer Shoop was recently honored at two events for his card-playing prowess. Shoop recently achieved 10,000 points and grand master status. In the history of American Contract Bridge, Shoop is the 93rd to achieve the status.

The 78-year-old is considered the oldest player to win more than 1,000 master points in a calendar year.

    MILFORD - A life exemplified by teaching, giving, patience and forebearance was said of Mrs. Dorothy Williams, as she was honored with the community's highest award, citizen of the year.

She has spent 24 years in the teaching profession and will retire this year from the public school system. She is a language arts instructor at Milford Junior High.

    Talk about an honest day's work. A prize Duroc sow, owned by young Charles Decker, of near Claypool, gave birth to 21 young pigs. Charles resides with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Loren Decker, east of Claypool.

A normal litter is nine to 12 pigs. Just goes to show that when the chips are down and food is needed by our country - even the pigs in Kosciusko County come through.

    A number of couples enjoyed an old-fashioned square dance at the Moose Hall Wednesday evening. The music was furnished by old-time fiddlers. The dances were called by Ed Gray.
