    Christopher Kauffman of Triton Elementary is the fifth-sixth-grade spelling champion for the second straight year.

Kauffman, a sixth-grader from Bourbon, outspelled 20 other school champions in the first round of the county spelling bee.

February 23 1981

    Veteran County Police Detective Sgt. Stanley Holderman and Warsaw Fireman Larry Baker were named "Policeman and Fireman of the Year" by members of the Warsaw Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Detective Holderman joined the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department in September 1968, and Baker has been a full-time Warsaw fireman for nearly three years.

February 23 1956

    Janice Reed, 18-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cloyce Reed, East Market Street, has been named Junior Homemaker of Tomorrow at Warsaw High School.

In written examinations and essay work in which senior home economics girls competed, Janice received the highest rating. She will now be eligible to enter state competition.

February 23 1931

    ROCHESTER - After 63 years, Joseph Brubaker, pioneer resident of this city, "came out of hiding" today to please his two small grandchildren. Since the youngsters were tired of "grandpa's beard," Brubaker shaved his face clean. Not even his own son recognized him.
