Two local students recently served as legislative pages for Rep. Dave Wolkins. Emily Cripe, Atwood, daughter of Richard and Catherine Cripe, is in seventh grade at Mentone Junior High, and Crista Coppes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Coppes, Warsaw, is a sixth-grader at Harrison Elementary School, Warsaw.
Fifteen-year-old Randy Slusher, son of Rex Slusher, Old Road 30, has claimed a new world's record - laying a penny on his elbow, letting it drop and catching it without missing. Randy telephoned the Times-Union near midnight one evening recently to claim the new record. At his home (his 11-year-old brother Douglas a witness) Randy is recorded as doing the stunt 61 times before a miss. He further reports that the former record, 50 times, was reported in a recent issue of the National Enquirer, Lantana, Fla. Randy is a sophomore in the Whitko schools.
Construction work on the new building of the Weatherhead Corp. at Syracuse is nearing completion, and the plant, expected to employ 500 persons within a year, will soon be in operation.
Wilbur Elder, son of Mrs. George Kelly, of this city, recently won fame at San Francisco as driver of an Essex car which maintained an average speed of 61.7 miles per hour on a race track for 13 hours and 46 minutes in an endurance reliability test. The young man left Warsaw about one year ago.
