    BOURBON - PFC Russell Scott of the 11th Airborne Division earned three bronze stars, several ribbons and a couple of medals for his participation in World War II.

But like many other veterans, Scott did not receive all of those awards by the time he was discharged. To get the medal awarded to troops who participated in the liberation of the Philippines from Japanese occupation, Scott had to send an application with a copy of his discharge papers - and 47 years later Scott's new red and white ribbon supporting a brass medal arrived at his Bourbon home.

    HANOVER - Jay Steger, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Steger, Rt. 6, has pledged the Hanover chapter of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. A freshman at the college, Steger is a graduate of Warsaw High School, where he was a member of the football team and was active in choir and drama.

    NAPPANEE - Henry L. Pletcher will serve next year as president of the Nappanee Farmers' Institute, with Mrs. Roger Hahn as secretary and Amos Reed, treasurer. During the business session Kenneth Smith was elected vice president, Mrs. Stanley Berger, assistant secretary, and Earl Stouder, assistant treasurer.

    Warsaw and Pierceton are among six American Legion posts in the state which were recently given distinguished service certificates by the state Legion headquarters for having exceeded their 1927 membership record.

Regarding memberships in the drive just closed, Pierceton was second and Warsaw third out of 20 in this district for the number of members secured in the recent drive. The Michigan City and Warsaw posts are now among the largest in the state.
