    Dave Rapp recently was honored as the Warsaw Fire Department volunteer firefighter of the year. Rapp received a plaque to commemorate the honor.

February 2 1981

    Nine-year-old Julie Cobbs, a third-grader at Claypool Elementary, had a dream come true when she had two minutes to fill a shopping cart with toys at the Ayr-Way store in Scotsdale Mall.

Julie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. DeWain Cobbs, Warsaw, netted about $400 in toys during the shopping spree that capped off a Multiple Sclerosis Read-A-Thon in which students read books to raise money for M.S. Julie read 39 books to raise $12.48.

February 2 1956

    George Knee, son of Mr. and Mrs. E.W. Knee, of 2016 E. Center St., writes home about the snowmen they build in Montana. George, who is attending college at Montana State, sent pictures of various animals, model T autos and other items, all made of snow by students at the college.


75 Years Ago

February 2 1931

    A delegation of farmers from the vicinity of Etna Green, Atwood and Nappanee, headed by Forrest Knepper, former state representative, and William Person, of Atwood, urged the board of county commissioners to guarantee the right of way through the county, of proposed state highway 19.

Plans call for running this highway south from Nappanee to Peru, a distance of approximately 28 miles. The boosters said the plan is for the new state highway to pass just a mile west of Atwood.
