    The Tippecanoe Valley Viking Guard was recently recognized in the "Notable News" newsletter as one of the top nine guard units in the state. The team, which is directed by Mike and Marcie Pearson, is participating in the fifth annual Winter Guard Classic at the Tiger Den at Warsaw Community High School.

    Native Warsawan James W. Frush has retired from the United States Navy after 22 years of active service. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Frush, Warsaw.

Frush, a 1954 graduate of Warsaw High School, enlisted in the Navy at Fort Wayne on Oct. 21, 1954, and attained the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer prior to his retirement.

    Pfc. Charles E. Young, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon D. Young, Mishawaka, and formerly of Mentone, has been transferred to Quantico, Va., after competing Marine boot camp training at the San Diego, Calif., base.

He is a graduate of Mentone High School with the class of 1949.

    Jacob Schue, longtime resident of this city, today (Feb. 16) celebrated his 88th birthday at his home on East Smith Street, where a number of his Civil War comrades called upon him. Tonight his children, relatives and intimate friends will give a supper at his home in his honor.
