    Silver Lake Elementary School principal Gene England demonstrated the finer points of kissing a pig, which was brought to the school as a surprise for third-grader Dennis Hiatt's birthday. The pig did several tricks for the students, then went home for a good mud bath to wash off any germs he might have picked up from England.

    Robert L. Hall has been promoted to the position of cost accountant at Brock Manufacturing Inc., Milford, according to James C. Evans, Brock vice president.

Hall will be responsible for all product and inventory costing.

    Calvin Beck, trustee of Turkey Creek Township, has presented to the state board of education plans for a new Syracuse grade school building and gymnasium and the plans have been approved by the state superintendent of schools, Beck said.

The plans call for the new building to be located adjacent to the present high school building.

    Charles A. Sharp, son of Capt. I.W. Sharp, of this city, has been promoted to lieutenant colonel of U.S. Infantry Reserves. Col. Sharp was captain of Co. H of Warsaw during the Spanish War, later a lieutenant in service in the Philippines and a major during the World War.
