February 14 1996

    Four Cub Scout Pinewood Derby racers, including an undefeated car, finished at the top of Cub Scout Pack 3819's annual pinewood derby race.

Luke Dawson, Tyler Petty, Jason Scheure and Ryan Munsch were the top four racers of the Sacred Heart Cub Scout pack. Dawson's pinewood car was undefeated.

February 14 1981

    Navy Gunner's Mate 2nd Class Steven R. Stiles, son of Paul B. and Sarah A. Stiles, Silver Lake, recently participated in exercise "Readiex 1-81" off the southern California coast. He is a crewmember aboard the guided missile cruiser USS Bainbridge, homeported in San Diego.

Designed to prepare the 3rd Fleet battle group to react to a variety of threats, the involved units practiced electronic and anti-air warfare, and communication and combat systems tests.

February 14 1956

    Donnie Butts, former Beaver Dam High School star athlete, has established an all-time basketball scoring record at Manchester College.

Butts, a 5-foot, 9-inch senior, has scored a total of 1,138 points in his 78 collegiate games, a 14.6 average.

February 14 1931

    Plowing on a big scale continues over Kosciusko County, the only exception being that a number of farmers have completed all the plowing they have to do as there is not much ground left that is yet to be turned.

Wheat looks particularly good and many fields have a slight greenish tinge. Early Easter flowers are already breaking through the ground and are up an inch or more in some gardens though a severe nipping may be in store for them in the near future.
