The Akron eighth-grade Lady Flyers won the championship of the Camelot Tourney recently at Triton High School by beating Milford Feb. 4. Members of the team are: Jennifer Studebaker, Erica Pontious, Inga Vandermark, Wendy Tilden, Melinda Beery, Melissa Barnhart, Rhonda Doud, Alyssa Van Cleave, Jennifer Baker, Lisa Conley, Tiffany Cunningham, Brenda Rose, Kacey Kottkamp, Beth Petrosky and Natisha Bean. They are coached by Leslie Brouyette.
Jane Kneller, of Silver Lake, used all her strength to push a heavy package of meat in a grocery cart at Owen's Supermarket, Warsaw, which was all part of a five-minute shopping spree she won. She was allowed to collect items in the meat department for one minute and four minutes in any other portion of the store. When the shopping spree had ended, Kneller had collected $1,289.29 worth of groceries. She was awarded the shopping spree from Beeline Fashions Inc. for meeting specific goals in expanding and developing the company's field sales organization.
Ken Norris, Warsaw High School basketball coach, was carried to the dressing room by happy members of his team after the Tigers defeated Plymouth, 65-43, last night at the local school armory and thus added the Central conference basketball crown to their previously won football title. The players carrying Norris were Jack Evans, Kent Adams, Gordon Thompson and Larry Pinkerton.
Headed by Orville Kilmer, Everett Rasor, Arden Poor, LeRoy Hughes and Gilbert Bates, a group of Warsaw American Legion members left for Fort Wayne to hear an address by National Commander O.L. Rodenhamer, of the American Legion, who is to speak at a legion meeting tonight at Fort Wayne.
