WINONA LAKE - Quick action by a 13-year-old Winona Lake boy saved the lives of two young girls who fell through the ice on Winona Lake.

Police are commending the efforts of Saun Thomas Miller, who pulled 8-year-old Kendra Zielasko and 8-year-old Ashley Singletary from the icy waters about 5 p.m.

Nancy, pretty wife of handsome Robbie Gast (Freewheelin', West Center Street, Warsaw), recently received a well-deserved plaque from the local Chamber of Commerce for her work with the Chamber on home shows and other projects. She and Rob are always busy, not only at Freewheelin', but with Scouting, skiing and biking. Two real great young business people who work as hard as they play.

Due to the fact that the Silver Lake School was late in opening this fall, as the building was not ready for occupancy at the regular term opening, the trustee of Lake Township and the principal last Saturday put into effect a program of a six-days-a-week school to make up for lost time.

It is understood that the plan is being worked as an experiment. A number of unexcused absences occurred last Saturday, one family giving the reason that they thought "Saturday was Sunday."
