    Twelve Michiana high school students are being recognized as some of the finest basketball players in the country. The have been nominated for the 1995 McDonald's All American High School Basketball Team.

Among the members is Brodie Ewert, Warsaw.

February 11 1980

    Senior Pam Shively triumphantly waved a souvenir piece of the net after she and her Warsaw Community High School teammates won the Warsaw Girls basketball regional Saturday night. The Tigers, 21-0, go to the Fort Wayne Northrop Semistate.


50 Years Ago

February 11 1955

    Rita Olson, Mentone High School junior, was awarded first prize in the adult division, and a quartet composed of Madonna Nellans, Martha Nellans, Dania Creviston and Susan Briel, all of Mentone, placed first in the children's division of the talent show sponsored by the senior class of Mentone.

Rita played a piano solo, "Deep Purple," and the quartet sang "Mr. Sandman."

February 11 1930

    The oldest known Bible in this part of the state is owned and highly prized by Grace Brown, wife of the Rev. A. Christie Brown, of Winona Lake. The Bible was published in 1766 at Edinburgh "By Order of His Majesty" and was brought to America and handed down through successive generations of the Hill family of Pennsylvania to Grace Hill Brown, who has already made arrangements for its descent to a grandchild, George Hill IV. A great-great-grandfather, George Hill Sr., has inscribed his name in the old Bible, an edition of very fine print, and the notation that on March 10, 1824, the book was rebound in its present leather with two medal clasps. Mrs. Brown's grandfather was a Pennsylvania U.S. senator and her father was a minister of the gospel for 55 years.
