Sen. Richard G. Lugar hosted nearly 600 high school juniors at his 17th annual Symposium for Tomorrow's Leaders, held at the University of Indianapolis. Local students who attended were Vince Beasley and Jonathan Ummel from Wawasee High School, Leanna Rudisel, Warsaw Community High School, Tami Unzicker, Tippecanoe Valley High School and Becky Bunton, Bethel Academy.
The Gilliam Lanes Junior Bowling Leagues recently sponsored a Junior-Adult tournament to raise money for local youth to attend the Indiana State Tourney in Terre Haute. They are Amy and Murray Holt, junior league winners; Pam and Robert Henderson, senior league winners; and Kyle and Ed Herendeen, bantam league winners. A total of 106 couples took part.
Word was received of the promotion of Corporal Ronald E. Miller, of Claypool, to sergeant now serving with the G-1 section of 10th corps, located at Injie, Korea. Sergeant miller, the 21-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Miller, who reside at Claypool, has been in Korea for the past nine months, and has advanced within that time from a private to sergeant.
Mrs. Clinton Dederick entertained two tables of bridge at her home on East Center Street. Prizes were won by Mrs. Jesse Eschbach and Mary Kathryn Shoup.
