    Warsaw Community High School senior Laura Engle was third in the American Legion Oratorical Contest zone contest at south Bend. Each contest winner receives awards. The top prize nationally is a $16,000 scholarship.

Feb. 4 1972

    An excited Warsaw crowd lifted Mark Hanna to its shoulders following the Tigers' 85-83 victory over Plymouth in four overtimes. The victory assured the Tigers a first-place finish in the Northern Lakes Conference cage race.

Feb. 4 1947

    Normal existence, which depends on a steady flow of electric power to maintain its essential services and run the thousand and one gadgets, was suspended as ice broke powerlines in a radius of 100 miles around Warsaw. Business was near a standstill and industry was paralyzed. Private citizens were "on their own," and all schools were closed.

Feb. 4 1922

    A fine bright moon and excellent ice combined to furnish scores of skaters much enjoyment at Center Lake last night. Warmth was furnished by a small fire made by the boys who gathered driftwood along the banks.
