    Tracey Mikel, a senior at Tippecanoe Valley High School, and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Mikel, Rt. 1, Etna Green, has received the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award for 1988-89.

Mikel's winning papers consisted of a written essay, "Our American Heritage and My Responsibility to Preserve It," and a national, civic and patriotic test.

    Airman Estel Hurley Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Estel Hurley, Rt. 5, Warsaw, has been assigned to the technical training center at Lowry Air Force Base, Colo., for training as a weapons mechanic. He recently completed his basic training at Lackland AFB, Texas.

December 8 1948

    Chester Overleese this week ended 42 years of service as rural mail carrier out of the Milford postoffice. He carried the U.S. mail over Milford's Rural Route 1 for the last time Tuesday.

Mr. Overleese started his work as a mail carrier in 1906 as a substitute for James P. Fuller. Mail was carried in a mail wagon, drawn by a horse. He became a regular carrier on March 16, 1911. He estimates that he has made more than 1,215,000 stops.

December 8 1923

    Tonight at 5 was the time set for the opening of the new East Market Street asphalt pavement for traffic clear through from the Big Four railway to the Argonne Road, at the Dalton home.

The new street, the greatest single improvement in Warsaw for many years, perhaps the greatest in all time, cost around $90,000 and will give Warsaw-Winona traffic another route, better and shorter. The pavement is a mile and 3/4 in length.
