    Troy Haines was selected as fireman of the year Saturday during Winona Lake Fire Department's annual meeting. Haines' father, Dick, earned the same distinction last year and his three brothers are also area firemen.

    Leah Hartman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Hartman, Pierceton, was recently crowned Whitko's Junior Miss. Leah won the scholastic award and performed a ballet solo to "Moonlight Sonata." She will participate in the State Junior Miss Pageant at Frankfort.

    A story entitled "Why I'd Rather Preach In Nappanee Than Chicago," written by Rev. Don Jennings, pastor of the Methodist Church in Nappanee, has been published in a current issue of a nationally-circulated magazine. His first story "Ten Sure Ways To Annoy Your Pastor" appeared in a November issue.

December 7 1927

    Mr. and Mrs. Charles Stewart, Winona, delightfully entertained members of the Winona Church choir, Monday evening, at a "backwards party." Upon the arrival of the guests they were bidden 'goodbye," and also wore their clothes backwards. An old fashioned spelling match was held and the words were spelled backwards. In the contests prizes were awarded Dr. J.A. Gordon and Mrs. Simms.
