    A team of students from Whitko High School was recently awarded a silver emblem in The National Meats Technology and Evaluation Contest held at the Food Barn Meat Processing Plant, Kansas City, Mo.

Team members are Jamie Stiffler, Tonya Werstler and Jennifer Gibson. Their coach is Roger Carr of Whitko High School.

    The Warsaw volunteer fireman of the year award was bestowed upon Jim Phillips last night at the firemen's monthly meeting at the firemen's training building near Pike Lake. Phillips, Warsaw, has been a volunteer firemen for nine years and is the eighteenth recipient of the award, which began in 1960.

    Dick Messner, 21-year-old major league baseball prospect, has been keeping his arm in shape this fall and winter "by pitching" copies of the Times-Union to customers in this area. Dick, a "bonus baby" with the New York Giants, has been employed as a rural carrier for the Times-Union while pursuing his studies at the Grace Theological Seminary at Winona Lake.

    Dr. A.C. McDonald has been elected a member of the board of directors of the mid-west division of the International Boys' Club Federation. L. Norman (Pete) Thorn, director of the Warsaw Boys' Club, has returned from Chicago where he represented the local club.
