    Marietta Beyel was recently awarded the Commissioner Sunbeam award through The Salvation Army Sunbeam Program. Sunbeams, a national program for girls in grades one through five, is based on fellowship, service, education and worship. Beyel has been a Sunbeam of Warsaw Troop 29 since 1991 and is a fifth-grader at Redeemer Lutheran School. She is the daughter of Paul Beyel, Winona Lake.

    NORTH MANCHESTER - Manchester College's star football player Dan Hoffman, a 6-2, 175-pound senior, was named second team All American defensive back according to a Dec. 15, National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics press release, distributed from NAIA Headquarters in Kansas City, Mo.

Upon receiving advance notice of Hoffman's selection, Spartan Head Football Coach Jack Jarrett said, "Dan is undoubtedly the best defensive safety I have ever coached."

    Members of the North Webster Art Dauber's Club held a surprise birthday supper for Mrs. Ward Weaver recently. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Alton Kruger, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Plew and family and Mr. and Mrs. George Burns and son.

    The following were prize winners in a contest Monday night at the Corner Cigar Store: Robert Sipes, five-pound box of candy; Marshall Harmon, smoker's stand; James Baughman, carton of cigarettes; Chet Rhoades, one-pound box of candy; Carl Shroyer, Bunch Wright, Charles Stroud and Charles Bartol, boxes of cigars. The proceeds went to the Salvation Army Christmas Fund.
