    Warsaw resident Roy Szymanski was appointed to the Warsaw Community School Board by the Wayne Township Board of Trustees.

Szymanski replaces former board president Michael Martin.

    Callie Kirkendall, a resident of the Prairie View Nursing Home, Warsaw, celebrated her 85th birthday Dec. 15 and among her most cherished greetings is a birthday card from President Gerald R. Ford. A resident of the nursing home since March 1 of this year, she is the mother of Wallace Kirkendall of this city.

    Garland "Shorty" Kiefer, Burket, was elected chief of the Burket-Seward Township Volunteer Firemen's Association this week.

Other officers chosen were Guy Baker, captain; Myrl "Red" Wagner and Everett Warren, assistant chief; Hollis Nine, first lieutenant; Virgil Haupert, second lieutenant; and Art Wise, secretary-treasurer.

    Claude A. Mahoney, son of A.A. Mahoney of Warsaw, has been appointed to serve on the staff of the DePauw Magazine for another year, according to an announcement made in the December issue of the magazine.

Mahoney, whose home is at 429 W. Fort Wayne St., Warsaw, was also active in high school journalism, being actively engaged on both the staff of his high school annual and the high school paper. He is a junior at DePauw, and a member of the Depauw newspaper staff as well as the DePauw magazine staff. He is also on the staff of the Yellow Crab, the University's humorous magazine, and has done some splendid work in the publicity department of the YMCA.
