    Mentone School's old gym, a 60-year-old building, was leveled Tuesday by construction workers. The quaint structure, located along Yale Street, Mentone, was known for its sturdy hardwood floor, which was nailed together when constructed around 1925. According to Wayne Tombaugh, a Mentone resident and former custodian at the gym, the wooden floor was better than most basketball courts built today.

    William I. Garrard, 41, Rt. 3, Spring Acres, Warsaw, has been appointed judge for the Indiana Court of Appeals by Gov. Otis Bowen.

Garrard replaces Allen Sharp, now a federal judge. Garrard has been a member of the Rasor, Harris, Garrard & Lemon law firm of Warsaw since he was admitted to the bar in 1959.

    Mrs. Roger Ring, of near Claypool, was the hostess at the annual Christmas celebration held recently by the Happy Homemakers' Club. A favorite Bible verse was given in answer to roll call. Gifts were exchanged by the members of the club.

    John B. Watson, the druggist, has been awarded a Star automobile by the concern manufacturing the Gem and Ever Ready razors for being one of seven dealers in a district comprising 13 states in the high place for sales of these razors during a given period.
