Bert O. Mabie, who upholds the strong arm of the law and peace in the Syracuse vicinity, spotted a suspicious looking stranger with a more suspicious looking satchel at the B&O depot. An amber fluid tricked from the suitcase onto the platform. The suspicious actions of the bootlegger fascinated Mabie. He smelt of the fluid. It bore the odor of moonshine. He tasted. Then, convinced that he had trapped a bootlegger, placed the man under arrest and demanded to see in the suitcase. The man complied.

"I'm just taking that little bull dog home to my boy for a Christmas present," he explained to the chagrined minion of the law. A great pool of tears were rolling from the little dog's eyes as he shivered in the zero temperature.
