    Laura Lea Byers, Winona Lake, has been selected as a state finalist in the Miss American Pre-Teen Pageant to be held in Indianapolis June 23 and 24.

Laura is a sixth-grader at Jefferson Elementary School, where she is very active in band and choir. Laura is also involved in activities at Community Grace Brethren Church.

    Paul D. Warner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lorraine V. Warner, of Rt. 2, Pierceton, was awarded the Ph.D. degree from the Ohio State University in rural sociology.

Dr. Warner is a 1962 graduate of Pierceton High School. He received his bachelor's degree from Purdue University and his masters degree from Ohio State. Upon completion of his doctorate, Dr. Warner has accepted a position as assistant professor of sociology at the University of Kentucky, Lexington.

    Roger Smith and Betty Lou Dunn, of this city, and James Williamson, Etna Green, who are students at the Indiana School for the Blind, Indianapolis, will take part in the Christmas program to be presented there. The entire student body will take part in the musical play, "Christmas with the Old Woman Who Lived in the Shoe," which will be given in the school auditorium.

    The 85th milestone of life was passed yesterday by Dr. C.W. Burket, venerable Warsaw retired physician and civil war veteran. Dr. and Mrs. Burket quietly celebrated the event by attending Thursday evening prayer meeting at the Methodist Church. Mrs. Burket, with her "sweetheart 85 years young on her arm," visited The Times.
