    At Tuesday night's Warsaw-Columbia City girls basketball game, everyone was standing ready for a taped recording of the national anthem prior to the start of the game. But for some reason, the recording never started.

Thanks to some swift thinking by the Rev. Roy Blake, however, there was barely a hitch. Blake, who was at the scorer's table, asked everyone to join him in saying the Pledge of Allegiance instead.

    During the recent Fraternal Order of Police Christmas party, held in the Firemen's Building at Pike Lake, Santa presented Dale W. Sparklin and H. Earl Boggs with "Life Membership" certificates in the Kosciusko County Lodge of the FOP. Sparklin, of Syracuse served with the police department there, and Boggs with the Kosciusko County Sheriff's department for many years.

    Jim Minear, freshman halfback from Warsaw, was the recipient of the "most valuable player" award at the football awards banquet given by the Kiwanis Club, Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce at North Manchester in honor of the Manchester college grid squad. Minear is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Rulo Minear, Warsaw.

    John Caty, Leesburg, celebrated his 94th birthday anniversary. Caty has never worn glasses and is in perfect health. He is the father of five children.
