Four Wawasee High School students placed in the student division of the Lakeland Art Association's fall exhibit, Nov. 19 and 20, at the Bowen Center.
Mrs. Herbert (Lucile) Stamats, of 2112 Brookview, Warsaw, retired this week after serving for more than 28 years as auditor at Lake City Bank. Bruce Wright, bank president, said, "You can quote me, we are going to miss her." Although she has no immediate plans, with her energy it is certain she will not spend all her time in a rocking chair.
Donald Lee Mahoney, 13-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. A.W. Mahoney, of Rt. 3, Argos, has won first prize in the Guernsey division of the state 4-H Dairy safety contest. His parents received the news from F.R. Willsey, farm safety specialist of Purdue University.
Warsaw's fire whistle, "a landmark," soon is to disappear, probably by Jan. 10, 1924, according to Joseph Lessig, manager of the Warsaw branch of the Interstate Public Service Company. Elimination of the whistle at the pumping station on N. Buffalo will be made necessary by the fact that the company soon will practically discontinue its steam plant at that point. After Jan. 10, but four pounds of steam will be maintained and this is not sufficient to blow the whistle.
