    Warsaw Community High School has been notified by National Merit Scholarship Corp. that Eric Jaroch, son of Lawrence and Carole Jaroch, and Rod Ginter, son of Wayne and Kathleen Ginter, have been designated commended students in the 1989 National Merit Scholarship Program. The principal, Richard Kline, announced that these seniors placed in the top 50,000 of more than one million participants in the 34th annual Merit Program and will receive letters of commendation in recognition of outstanding academic promise.

    Christine Redington, 15, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Redington, Rt. 2, Warsaw, will be doing her best to help cheer hospital patients during the Christmas holiday season this month. The Times-Union Calendar Girl for December has her mind set upon becoming a registered nurse for her life's work. She is already helping the ill through her service as a "Candy Striper" at Murphy Medical Center.

    Music and book lovers will enjoy a combined treat next Friday night, when Kathyrn Turney Garten will review the Carl Sandburg novel "Remembrance Rock."

The public review will be presented for the benefit of the effort to purchase a new Hammond organ for the Warsaw High School auditorium. For 30 minutes preceding the books review, Katherine Jane Schlemmer will play the new organ for early comers.

December 1 1923

    Anson Borkert, genial Warsaw barber, got a cold, unexpected plunge on Thanksgiving day, when he tumbled out of his boat, which hit a stump near the shore of Center Lake.

"He went down three times," said one of his friends. "Fortunately it was only 18 feet - I mean, inches - deep." Borkert and his son-in-law, Joe Stickler, were duck hunting.
