    The Warsaw Marching Percussion fared very well in the recent Moorehead (Ky.) State Day of Percussion Festival.

Warsaw finished first in its class and was named grand champion overall for the second consecutive year. In addition, three Warsaw students received individual awards: Jeff Handel was named keyboard champion; Lane Army, multi-tenor champion; and Jeremy Miller, snare champion.

    The Fort Wayne Mizpah Shrine Horse Patrol will appear in the Cotton Bowl Parade on New Year's Day in Dallas, Texas. The 30-member troop will leave Dec. 30 and return Jan. 2. Local members of the troop are John "Bud" Shear, captain, Pierceton; Doug Metz, quartermaster, Leesburg; Steve Aker, Pierceton; and Lee Nichols, lieutenant, Larwill. Also traveling with the group will be Mr. and Mrs. Frank Coppes, and Mr. and Mrs. Harold "Hal" Smith, of Warsaw. Mr. Coppes and Mr. Smith are both Shriners in the Kosciusko County Mini Bike Patrol.

    Tom Sittler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Sittler, of Silver Lake, has won a place on the Valparaiso University Crusaders' varsity basketball team and is expected to see action tomorrow night against Purdue in the first meeting between the two teams.

Sittler was one of Kosciusko County's most brilliant athletes a few years back.

    Miriam Pierce, Marjorie Bolinger, Chester Bolinger and Dean VanOsdal will attend the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity dance at DePauw University this evening.
