Councilman Robert Gast received a new nameplate at city hall Thursday. Apparently, his wife Marjorie called him by the name "old Bob" at a recent Salvation Army function. The name made an impression on Warsaw Mayor Jeff Plank, who affixed it in the council chambers.
This Saturday night, the Phenix Coffeehouse will ring in the New Year. For this special occasion, the Phenix has schedule as its special program two of the most talented folk singers in the area. Hailing from North Webster, Clint Olson and Kurt Krueger, both stellar athletes in high school, specialize in a folk-rock sound, singing songs that have special meaning for senior high youth.
Employees at the local post office are handling another record-breaking Christmas rush of mail, Postmaster Roy Bowen told The Times and Union. More than 45,000 pieces of mail have been dispatched from the post office daily during the past week, and a like number of incoming pieces were distributed locally. This tops the previous Christmas season mailing record of approximately 40,000 pieces daily, set last year.
Returning home on Sunday to spend Christmas at their own country home five miles northwest of Leesburg, Mr. and Mrs. William Kaiser discovered five Milford young men had entered their home during their absence and were having a party. The party included an oyster and moonshine stew, and was in full swing. Constable Bert O. Mable and Chief of Police C.W. Douglass were summoned, but the hilarious party had decamped.
