Chad Tucker, Mentone, was recently recognized by DeKalb-Pfizer Genetics for his ability to estimate crop yields. Tucker was the winner in the company's "Eye For Yield" contest held in conjunction with a field day at Lloyd Tillman farm, Mentone.
Harley O. Rice, Warsaw, construction electric crew supervisor with Northern Indiana Public Service Company, has announced his retirement from the utility. Rice, a graduate of Rochester High School, started with NIPSCO in 1949 as a mechanic "B." Other promotions include mechanic "A" and later mechanic foreman in 1950 and construction crew supervisor in 1951.
Announcement was made that a picture painted by Mrs. Ralph Boyd, of Anderson, "Morning at Dune Acres," had won second place in the annual exhibit of the Society of Artists at Anderson. This was one of three oil paintings exhibited by Mrs. Boyd. She was formerly Marion Pierce McBroom, of this city.
Some weeks ago reference was made in this paper to a 16 1/2-pound red beet raised in the southern part of the state. Now, Alvin Robinson, of Warsaw, comes forward with the statement that he "goes it better" by the margin of one pound. On his ground between Smith Street and Walnut Creek he raised a red beet this fall that weighed 17 1/2 pounds.
