    Area fourth grade students participated in the annual fire prevention poster contest. First place winner was Chris Gray, Etna Green, the son of Tami and Arley Escapole. Chris attends Triton Elementary and received a $100 savings bond.

Dec. 29 1972

    Members and friends of the Winona Lake Brethren Church and Sunday school surprised their pastor, the Rev. Charles H. Ashman, on Sunday morning with a gift of near $1,500 for his forthcoming trip to Jerusalem, Israel, where he will be participating in the Grace Theological Seminary Holy Land Seminar. This also marks his 10th anniversary as pastor of the church.

    Fred Fox, South Whitley, fire chief for the past 45 years, has resigned, and Harold Howard has been elected to succeed him. Dick Wood is the new assistant chief. Lewis Bayman will serve as the department secretary-treasurer for the coming year.

Dec. 29 1922

    William Whittenberger and Leland Kinsey are preparing a Ford automobile and will leave early next week for a general tour of the south. They expect to take with them a tent and camping outfit and the trio will be inseparable.
