    If you noticed Rex Reed appeared a little "glimpy" early this week, he had about 26 reasons. For the first time in a while, Reed, the county attorney, competed in a marathon and finished. He and his wife, Barbara, were in Dallas, Texas, last weekend for the White Rock Marathon. He finished the race in three hours, and is now qualified for the Boston Marathon scheduled for next April.

    Miss Sharon Peters, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Peters, Route 6, Columbia City, was chosen Sunshine Society Girl of the month for December at Whitko High School. Each month a girl is chosen by the society and is presented with a necklace.

Dec. 15 1947

    S/Sgt. Thomas VanDGrift, local army and air force recruiting officer, announced that he issued a total of 81 World War II medals last week. He said that 47 victory medals, 14 American Defense medals, and three foreign service clasps were issued in Warsaw, and 19 victory medals and 14 American Defense medals were issued at North Webster. The victory medals were awarded to veterans who served between Dec. 7, 1941, and Dec. 31, 1946. The American Defense medals were given to veterans who served before Pearl Harbor, while the foreign service clasps went to those who enlisted before Pearl Harbor and who were overseas at the time of the attack on Pearl Harbor.

    Some women can keep a secret, contrary to the generally expressed opinion that they can not, according to Claude Wade of Akron, well known in Warsaw. He was married on Aug. 12 at Kalamazoo, Mich., to Miss Eva McGlennen and they decided to keep the secret. Mrs. Wade did her part well, but finally they decided on a formal announcement.
