Members of the Lakeland Christian Academy cheerleading squad recently returned home after attending a 22-team cheerleading camp at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion. The LCA squad was one of only nine groups of cheerleaders to be awarded a Spirit Stick, a trophy given to the squads showing the most spirit and enthusiasm during the week-long camp. Members of the squad are Dawn Brickel, Cari Bixler, Sally Wiersema, Beth Michaels, Amy Bowman, Noel Brundage and Laura Byers. They are coached by Myra Bixler and Beth Fellows.
Newly appointed Warsaw Postmaster Robert R. Douglas presented a certificate to Chester G. Kolar, retiring after 30 years of service. Chester has served as a city carrier and more recently as the Rt. 2 carrier.
Mrs. Ira Moore, Route 3, Warsaw, brings to The Times-Union a rare cactus plant acquired by her brother, Hershel Schooley, of Route 1, Pierceton, at Camp Breckinridge, Ky., while he was in camp there. Large, fragrant blooms, shaped somewhat like lilies but with many slender widely spaced petals, sprout from tufted spots on ridged, tomato-shaped knobs of the plant and last but a day. They then fall off leaving no sign of a stem.
