    Beginning Oct. 1, designated smoking areas will no longer exist in the two major Kosciusko County government buildings, the county commissioners decided yesterday.

Without discussion and by a two-vote majority, with Commissioner Avis Gunter abstaining, the commissioners passed a county ordinance making the county courthouse and the Justice Building smoke free.

    Trent Ayres, 12, Claypool, was named the "Rate of Gain" winner for a steer he showed in the 4-H beef contest Wednesday.

August 8 1955

    Robert W. Kyle, former Kosciusko County school teacher, was one of those initiated recently into Upsilon chapter of Phi Delta Kappa, professional fraternity for men in education, at Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill.

A graduate of Manchester College with a master's degree from Indiana University, Kyle taught in Atwood and North Webster schools from about 1936 through the past school year. He will complete requirements for a doctorate in education at the university.

    Arlene Braude was hostess to an initiation service and meeting of the Tri Kappa Sorority Wednesday evening at her home on East Main Street. Two pledges, Mrs. Ava Malone Teele and Mary Elizabeth Bodkin, were initiated.
