    KEESLER AFB, BILOXI, Miss. - Archibald Pounds has been promoted in the U.S. Air Force to the rank of airman first class.

The airman, an apprentice electronic computer and switching systems specialist, is the son of James and Ruth Pounds of Syracuse. He is a graduate of Wawasee High School, Syracuse.

    Karen Ker saved the best for last as she hurled a 10-strikeout no-hitter at the Yellowjackets to give the Woolyworms a 12-0 Major League girls' softball championship Wednesday evening.

The standout pitching effort was backed by errorless fielding as the Woolyworms ended their season with a sparkling 14-0 record.

    Mary Drudge, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Omer Drudge, of Beaver Dam community, presented a baton twirling routine at the 4-H dress review Friday in the Warsaw High School auditorium. Mary, who won first place in the Indiana State Solo Contest at Indianapolis for the past two years, recently placed in the championship group at a twirling contest at Syracuse. She is a member of the National Baton Twirling Association, International Baton Twirling Foundation and the Michiana Baton Club.

August 6 1928

    A large garfish, measuring 42 inches in length, was landed At Winona Lake by E.A.K. Hackett and his brother, Wayne, operators of the speed boats.

They were casting with a small bass rod and artificial bait near their pier. A 20-minute battle brought the fish to shore, where it was dispatched with a boat oar just as Hackett's line severed. It is probably the largest fish landed there for several years past.
