    Don Aldrich showed that patience does indeed pay off. Aldrich has been playing golf for 50 years, but Monday marked the first time he has hit a hole-in-one.

Aldrich aced the No. 2 167-yard hole at Rozella Ford Monday with a 5-wood. Looking on was his wife, Helen.

August 6 1980

    Marine Pfc. Gregory R. Schmidt, son of James W. Schmidt, Warsaw, was designated Honorman of his training unit during graduation ceremonies at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot. Parris Island, S.C.

He was meritoriously promoted to his present rank of recognition of his superior leadership, initiative and military bearing during the nine-week training cycle.

50 Years Ago

August 6 1955

    The courthouse dome, including the torch on top and the tower and clock area below, will be a combination of red and grey.

This was decided by the county commissioners, who studied more than 200 postcards and letters written by county residents who suggested various colors. The majority favored grey, while red was second high.

75 Years Ago

August 6 1930

    Graydon Powell, residing northwest of Warsaw, carried off state honors for the month of June, having both the high cow and the high herd in the state in the State Herd Improvement Association. Complete reports for June show the local association to be leading all others of the state by an average of more than 2 pounds of butterfat per cow.
